We have put together a list of trips, activities and fun excursions we have enjoyed over the years. We also have a list of books related to Bonaire. Once you arrive, pick up the publications “Nights” and the “Bonaire Update” at the airport or car rental offices. These list all the events, activities and contact numbers on the island.

Known for its wonderful diving and snorkeling Bonaire’s natural reefs are protected areas and offer spectacular views of coral formations, fish, turtles and other marine animals. Dive sites surround the island and are clearly marked and accessible by beach or dive boats. Discounted equipment and dive packages available right next door. Make sure you pick up your Stinapa tags to dive or snorkel. Divers pay $25.00 cash (diving orientation required) while snorkelers pay $10.00. Both passes get you into Washington Slagbaai Park for free. (Receipt and photo ID must accompany the tag to enter park.)
Travel tip: With a dive shop next door, renting equipment, picking up tanks and planning excursions is a breeze.

Lac Bay is known for its windsurfing with a steady breeze year round. Lac Bay is located minutes away and offers white sand beaches ideal for young children and families looking for a close get-a-way. Sorobon Beach’s shallow water is ideal for all levels of windsurfers and swimmers and boasts one of the larger populations of teenagers. Have delicious lunch and drinks overlooking the bay. While you are there enjoy a Mangrove Kayak tour at Cai. Reserve your tour next door at Belmar dive shop.
Travel tip: Make sure you plan to snorkel at high tide. Do not step on the sea grass, plant life or upside down Jelly fish found on the bottom. Bring your snorkel or diving gear and check out the untouched reef located before the breakers but be prepared for a long walk.

Washington Slagbaai Park located on the North part of the island near Rincon is a great day trip to dive or snorkel off beautiful sand beaches, see tropical flora and fauna and see Bonaire’s landscape at its finest. The choice of 1.5 or 2.5 hours self guided tours will expose you to true Bonairian beauty. Plan to stop at Wayaka II for a great snorkel area. Those with pre-purchased Stinapa tags (purchased at any dive shop) enter the park for free.
Travel tips: Pack lots of water and food as well as your camera. Be prepared for a rugged ride with mostly dirt roads and water holes during rainy season. This trip is well worth it.

Kline Bonaire is accessible by water taxi (check “Bonaire Updates” for numbers) and offers great diving and snorkeling. Kline Bonaire’s only inhabitants are the local animals and the occasional visitors who enjoys drift snorkeling or boat dives. You can spend as little as 2 hours or plan a half day trip. Turtle Tours on Kline Bonaire are run by Captain Mike. This two hour tour will expose you to sea turtles and possibly some turtle nests. Dolphin watching and night snorkels from his Zodiac are also available.
Travel tip: Bring water, food and a first aid kit. Scuba diving is arranged off dive boats. Captain Mike’s tour is ideal for those who have never seen turtles and appreciate the insight and knowledge of wild life and nature that Captain Mike can provide. Contact Captain Mike on the island at 790.8330

Take home local art work and a piece of Bonaire at Yenny’s, located at Kaya Betico Croes to the left of the stadium. Yenny’s Bonairian gardens are filled with birds, turtles, hermit crabs and Flamingos, as well as arts and crafts made from drift wood, coconuts and other natural materials. Her yard is a favorite for Kids.
Travel tip: Look for her famous life size stuffed dolls outside her house welcoming visitors.

Other smaller trips: There are several small trips you can make to get a real feel of the island: We enjoyed the Spelonk Lighthouse located on the east coast north of Lagoen. The trip itself is an adventure and this old lighthouse has some history. Visit the oldest town of Rincon or take a guided tour of the city. Eat local food at Rose Inn off of Kaya Rincon. From our deck you can see the lights of this town at night. If you travel past the Karpata dive spot it becomes one way and you will travel through Rincon to get back to Belnem. Indian Inscriptions and Cave exploring located along the coast off Kaminda Onima on the way up to Rincon provides adventures with a sense Bonaire’s past inhabitants. These caves have Indian inscriptions and are located in other areas of the island as well. Cave Snorkeling can be arranged by a local dive shop and provides a guided tour of some of Bonaire’s many underground cave systems. These safe tours are great for kids who enjoy exploring and families looking for a different excursion.
